#networking cdrom

My company has developed an application which we've distributed on CD to
non-networked sites. We are considering modifying it for use on LANs, but
we're concerned about response time since we have some rather large
databases. Any idea as to how much degradation in speed would be
experienced on a typical (???) network?? Any suggestions (we're all sort of
network neophytes)?
