Vic: I think you've got that backwards. CIS uses V.32 format at 9600 bps. V.42 bis refers to the data compression method that they do not use because they claim it does not have any benefit for all the compressed files here. In my opinion their pricing structure is the reason they don't support compression. They'd want to charge more for higher throughput. I've read that V.42bis is smart enough to know if it's hindering a transfer, and it turns itself off. MNP-5 compression can make a compressed file transfer slower. Paul
