Jay: You got it. I use a CoCo-3, and I also have a grey CoCo-1 which I did
a LOT of modifications on…keyboard, composite video display, a whoppping
64K, etc. I have OS-9 Level-II with Multi-Vue, (For those non-CoConuts out
there, Multi-Vue is a multitasking windowing GUI for OS-9 Level-II DOS,
which runs on 6800 series computers), but I rarely use it. There's just no
good software for it, and it's only getting worse. Plus I don't have the
time or the resources to write my own windowing word processor with
pull-down menus in BASIC-09, so it sits in my disk drawer trying to avoid
dust. Thus I use VIP Writer III and V-Term (a GREAT terminal program, BTW)
under a modified RS-DOS (to recognize my double sided drives) almost
exclusively. The nice thing about the Amiga is that I can use my present
RGB analog monitor for it (a Sony).
It's easy to see how I was attracted to the Amiga, but the cost factor is
tilting way over to the IBM side now. Each week it seems, 386 prices keep
dropping by a hundred bucks — and they come WITH the monitor!!! . My
cousin bought a 386 recently, with Wordperfect and Windows. I was
astonished when his 4-year-old son could run his way around Windows with
absolutely no difficulties; in fact, he was teaching *me* how to run it!
I'm really starting to feel computer-illiterate at this point!! <grin>
If C= doesn't drop their prices on the 2000 and 3000 series soon, I might
cave in and get an IBM clone, or I'll get a 500 and upgrade it with a hard
drive, etc. BUT, since IBM has a lock on the market, they might just take
me with them.
