I'd agree with Keven…3DS is a much easier environment for animation. Of
course, budget constraints can be another matter (only if this is a
"casual" endeavor). You could create a crude shaded animation with AutoCAD
alone, using AutoFlix 2.0 to create a series of shaded AutoCAD slides,
played back in a script.
For anything more serious (read: professional), get 3D Studio.
