#A2000 price increase!
I don't think I understand Commodore management, not at all.
January 1st, 1992 Commodore will raise the price of the Amiga 2000 from
$999 to $1900 (roughly) and the A2000HD to $2090. The quick math scholars
will realize that this move will put the average Amiga dealer out of the
video toaster business.
Video Toasters cost $2495, A2000HD's in January will cost $2090 for a
combined cost of $4585. That is about $600 more than a "Video Toaster
Workstation" from NewTek would cost. Do Amiga dealerships now have to
become "NewTek" dealers in order to be able to compete in a marketplace?
My hat is off to Commodore U.S. management. Only they could shoot a hole
into the best ballon amiga dealerships have had in a long time. I sure did
enjoy selling A2000s. Our A2000s may soon sport the name "NewTek", and I
will learn about "hardware upgrades on a disk" 🙂
Sigh..
