This is getting ridiculous. Two of my bosses just recently joined the "486 revolution". I found out when I told them I was interested in getting a new computer. "A 486, eh?" they both chorused. "No, I was thinking about an Amiga 3000…" "A GAME machine!!" they scoffed. Then I told them the prices. $1849 for the 16 and $2800 for the 25. "HA!", they said. "We just picked up a 'loaded' 486 for $1500, and you want to spend a grand more on a GAME machine!" I left while they chuckled. You know, other than the put-downs, they're absolutely right. Why would ANYONE in their right mind buy an Amiga for the prices that they list? The Amiga is NOT a MAC. I still don't know why people are willing to shell out $5000+ for a MAC-II and even almost $10G for a loaded Quadra. Maybe Commodore thinks that their market is mostly government, which gives them a licence to rip off, and their individual sales go to MAC wanna-haves who are nuts about video, and will pay any inflated price to run the Toaster. It just seems to me that Commodore doesn't consider IBM and its clones as direct competition. That's an outdated attitude that will KILL the Amiga in the not-too-distant future, IMHO. End of lecture. 🙂 —-Dave
