What story would you like? Here's an assertion: If programmers had been
working with an unsegmented architecture from the time they were saddled
with the 8088, we'd be much farther ahead than we are.
Why? Because programming would have been simpler, ergo in the same number
of hours either more capability would have been created, or more programs
would have been created. The linear environment also affects bugs, or the
lack of them.
66 is the *internal* clock rate of some 486 parts. External bus rate
potentials star at 1/2 that, and in your typical PC, are MUCH less than
1/2 of that.
