Steve–I am an expert because I am about three weeks ahead of you in
experience! I bought a Toaster about six months ago and hooked it up to a
Sony EVO-9700 Hi8 editor. This machine does not require a TBC when used
with the Toaster. It interfaces beautifully with the Toaster–it will
trigger the Toaster effects etc.
The 9700 comes with a keyboard and titler which you won't use if you
have a Toaster.
I really think you should look at this machine, since you already
have a Hi8 camcorder.
One caution—This Toaster Video stuff is addicting and you will
undoubtedly develop a case of the "wants". You will find that this can be
a black hole for $$.
