Ron: If you are having the problem with the dropped first character then it sounds as though you have the newer keyboard (do the function keys extend over to about the backspace key?). The notification is supposed to have been sent to all of the dealers (some at the Expo indicated that they had not received any information yet though). Personnally, I would suggest that if you do the mod your self that you remove the caps entirely, that way they won't be able to make inadvertant contact with any other circuits. If I needed to do it, I would first cut one end of each cap (so that it could be resoldered if necessary), fire up the Ami to check to see that the removal works ok (not a guarentee since the capacitance and other things will change a little when the rest of the capacitors are removed but still a good check). Then I would shut down the Ami and finish removing the caps completely. If you are not comfortable with working with printed circuit boards have a repair shop do the modification. In any event you must be very careful not to put any mechanical stress on the circuit board. That is just clip the leads cleanly. If your wire cutters are too big to do that then get another pair. Also, be careful not to allow any small pieces of wire remain in the Ami. Again personnally, I would unsolder the wire stubs but that is definately something for one that has lots of circuit board experiance (and I don't mean building Heathkits either since their circuit boards are much tougher than most). 73, bill
