Don, I wish they'd gone one way or the other… logically char should be
signed by default, same as int and long; but even if they'd decided to make
it unsigned it would have been better than leaving it ambiguous. Having what
amounts to a separate type for the ASCII set, and recognizing that is never
implemented as such, is entirely useless.
