The SANA-II device driver specification archive (on Fish disks,
probably in forum libraries) contains a sample driver for SLIP —
Serial Line Internet Protocol. With a null-modem (or regular modem)
connection and a SLIP SANA-II driver, you can use any SANA-II
compatible networking protocol software over the serial ports with no
additional hardware.
Of course, serial is fairly slow for most purposes.
I believe that there is a SANA-II driver floating around for parallel
ports ala ParNet, if that's really what you're into.
