Thanks for your comments Mike. I used to use 8N1 before all these
problems started, and was advised by Compuserve to change to 7E1. I
just tried changing back to 8N1 and even after ignoring the garbage
and logging on, I still got garbage. (Well not quite, the words were
mostly recognizable.) BTW I used Xmodem to upload my previous
message. The fact is, neither 8NI or 7E1 works properly with the
USRobotics Sportster. What puzzles me is why all seems well when
calling other than CIS. I don't know for sure whether Baud Bandit2
v1.2 is completely compatable with AmigaDOS 3.x but it is an advanced
ANSI commmercial program written by Greg Cunningham (who also wrote
DiskMaster amongst others) dated 1992. It has extensive AREXX support
and is very intuitive. It does not have the ability to strip off the
high bit, but has CharMask 127/255 for special IBM or ANSI
characters. It seemed to work well up to this point. I was using
Compuserve B+ before. I can't believe that Greg Cunningham has
disappeared off the face of the earth! I had downloaded AutoPilot some
while ago and this looked to me that it would take precious time to
master and I couldn't see just how it would much improve what I do
now. I'm open to persuasion though :-)u
