BB/HD solved!?
To Don Curtis, Andrew Porter and everyone who offered suggestions on my BB/HD
problem:
>However, when I install the Janus software on the hard disk, none
>of this is true! I can run the bridgeboard, but once I enter >"jlink", the 'a'
drive on the PC cranks for a moment, and then >the PC "dies": nothing more
happens, it accepts no more input. >The rest of the Amiga is unaffected. When I
reboot the PC, >either >with cntl-alt-delete or PCHard, the PC reboots, but I
do NOT get >the handler/library messages.
–*thanks* for the help, but the final solution turns out to be even stranger
than the initial problem…
I'd noticed that there was about a 4Mb discrepancy on my 20Mb HD between the
'space avail' and the total # of bytes taken up by files. I finally held my
breath, backed up the HD yet again, formatted the HD and restored it. Sure
enough, there's now about 17% available, and the BB works *fine* with the
HD!!?!?!?
Evidently some previously deleted files had badly fragmented the HD, and any
calls to Janus hit this "black hole"…
Of course, I wish I coulda noticed this two years ago, but anyhow, it works
now…has anyone else encountered this sort of problem? (with missing chunks on
the HD?)
