Once upon a time some of us went up Mt Shasta for cross-country skiing and had, as our goal, a stone cottage way-station kind of deal. Took so long to get there, and we were not even beyond tree-line, that it was pitch dark by the time we got back down to the car. Several of us, myself included, were pretty sure we were going to get disoriented and lost. (That is a *big* hill!) It had been warm on the way up and the snow got soft. Then as afternoon wore on, if froze again. There was about 1/2" layer of ice on everything. The slopes were about 30 degrees. I fell so much I ended up walking down in thigh-deep snow for the last hour and a half or so. Sounds quite the adventure now. At the time, however, I was *highly* miserable. Seems to me I was a grouch the rest of the night, too. We'd left our guitars at the shop where we rented skis and I *really* wanted to get back before it closed and I was forced to go 75 miles back home without it. That reminds me of the woman I was seeing at the time, who got me into that mess. Boy, am I glad SHE'S out of my life! <BG> DT
