There is a very cool feature in R3 that will allow you to fake it perfectly: HIDE keys. What you want to do is make two staplers. One will be unlinked for the first somany frames, the other will be linked to the hand for the "pick up". The trick is to hide the linked one until the frame where it begins to leave the surface it was resting on, and unhide the linked one. You do that by selecting track info on the unlinked stapler, selecting ADD in the track info dialogue chart, and place the dot on the frame where it needs to disappear (you'll notice all the frames after trun grey – that's good). For the linked stapler add a hide key in the first frame, and another in the frame where it needs to appear (same as where the other disappears). You'll notice grey frames from the first dot to the second, then white frames after – white means it's visible. Happy keyframing… John Tissavary (La Luna cie)
