I can't find the parent of this, but I seem to remember that my quote was in the context of "unless you only need to transfer files very infrequently." Certainly FTP is just fine for lot of things and I use it all the time. But not for machines which are on my physical network (i.e., the local machines I access all the time). — Dale L.
