#ProText
Barbara,
Aside from possibly Protext (Dom will have to tell you about that) IMO FW
is the best wp available for the Amiga. That isn't really saying much,
how ever as both PW & FC don't have alot of the high end features that one
may require.
For example, the answer to your question is NO. FW can not do a search
and replace for any non-character items (ie no tabs, hardreturns, etc.)
One thing I miss is a display of HRt's. For saving ASCII you have a
couple options for linefeeds but I don't think it retains formating.
As I mentioned, it is only worthwhile for printing out in graphics mode
(so it is considerably slower that WordPerfect), it doesn't have the
overall flexibility to define and combine different columns, etc on the
same page (although you can have different definitions in a document) and
things like colunm margins are fixed (a worthless feature, as far as I'm
concerned).
I haven't used it much but one thing I don't like is that it doesn't do
timed saves transparently to a secondary file. The timed saves feature
ask you every time if you want to save and then copy over to your old
version.
However, it is fast (at least on my 3000), the speller & thesaurus are
good (better than WP), the output is very nice, the button bar, user menus
and other similar features are very helpful and the array of features is
good. I feel I got my moneys worth (at C$170) and would recommend it.
I beleive you are in the Toronto area, huh? As I am in Etobicoke, if you
wish, we can meet and you can try it out. Leave me email if you want to.
