This is strange. You are probably talking about another machine or you have talked with the wrong person. In any case, your information about the computer we all are talking about is not correct. I have posted an official DEC information in the forum (what's new) and I suggest you to read the file. Again, the new "base" DEC XL with the pentium 64bit daughtercard at 60MHz cost $3,699 (3-6-9-9 american dollars) and includes a 256K cache, with SCSI-2 on a PCI bus on the motherboard, 340MB SCSI hard drive, double speed CD-ROM, 8 Megabytes RAM (up to 192MB with SIMMs in the motherboard), 2 buffered serial ports, 1 paralell, etc… + 2 PCI slots + 3 isa + 1PCI/1ISA interleaved. You can add $200 for a 14" monitor and $300 for the S3 based PCI video board. I'm not a DEC distrib This is the current information from the DEC PC catalog, the Digital Store in Compuserve and the DEC Electronic Store BBS (you can actually get a guaranteed price quote order from them at DES and make the shipping order whenever you want in 3 months, I think). Oh, yes, probably your "base" system includes a 2GB SCSI array, 2GB tape backup, the $600 Diamond Viper PCI board and a 21" monitor. But is more probably just a misinformation problem. BTW, I'm not linked with DEC in any sense. I just think that, at this price, and coming from them, the system is a bargain. Specially, looking at the solid specs.
