I can't help with the "write protected" problem but there was a great flurry of people experiencing disk errors with older floppys when they upgraded from 1.3 to 2.04 about a year ago. Seems the trackdisk.device or something was checking more critically and the solution was to open the drive up, clean it real good and reinstall it. I had this on BOTH 3.5" internals of my A2000 big time until I did that, now I have no errors. In particular look for wads of dust and grease packed up at the back end of the headloading guide rod which might limit rearward travel of the head and put a TINY drop of light oil on the rod..the amount the point of a pin can pick up and drop for instance. Did you check the interface plug of your drive for bent pins? If this is the first time you tried to use the external disk port there could be a chip bad on the motherboard too. I blew out my port with a defective 5" drive some time ago, but I just don't use it. Good luck Tom Oklahoma City, OK, US of A { jonest@hfsi.com }
