I only saw the SIGGRAPH demo of the PAR, and I've heard it's changed a bit
since then. I'm going to check out a MAX in a few days, since I'll be in
Montreal over Christmas.
The main difference for me is that I will not use IDE drives for anything. I
preferr EISA or other 32bit busses, and the increased throughput should tell
you right off the bat that the MAX will deliver less compressed, i.e. less
lossy images at the same frame rate. I've already got the EISA controller
needed for the system, and an HD I can use no problem (I'm pretty sure it's on
the list), so I only need the Matrox stuff, that's why I'm even considering it.
As far as bang for the buck, I imagine the DPS is a better deal, but I'm
currently attracting more clients who demand high-end video output so the MAX
seems better for me. I'm not sure if this is a phase or a taste of things to
come, so I'm going to wait a couple of months and see if I even need _any_ sort
of disk recorder since I've already got $$$ in single frame and Exabyte.
