BusWars ——- Here is the trap. EISA is limited to 16MHz. Local bus (be it VESA or PCI) runs, as the name implies, at the same speed the CPU data bus (33MHz for that matter). I have an Adaptec 2842VL. This board is, in theory, twice faster than yours and I still don't get 10Mb/sec (even though the literature says this boards supports rates "up to" 40Mb/sec). Well, I can't even transfer from memory to memory at that rate! Much less Video RAM. Another note worth taking. SCSI bus (the 50 pin cable you have between SCSI peripherals) is limited to 8 bits transfer. That's pitiful. There is a SCSI-3 in the works which should bring that up to "todays" bandwidth. That won't make your transfer rate go up to 120Mb/sec. VESA local bus gained so much market acceptance that turned EISA obsolete. PCI is going in the same direction. The war now will be between PCI and VLB-3 (64 bit).
