congratulations and merry 3ds3 Xmas!
1. You might get by with 8mb RAM if you were only doing logos and rendering at
320×200. For architecture the minimum would be 16mb for simple stuff. 3ds3 does
use more memory than 3ds2, but it's worth it.
2. No. Just keep a copy of r2 on your systems for contingency purposes.
3. I don't think DXF loading is much different. I usually load by layer as a
general rule of thumb.
