I recently installed a Speedstar 64 in my DECpc 450ST. I'm running Windows NT
3.5 and I'm having some problems with the drivers that come with NT 3.5.
Whichever 1280×1024 mode I pick, the display is always interlaced. Yet of the
modes listed only one is marked as interlaced.
With Windows 3.1 I managed to get 1280×1024 @60Hz without interlace, though the
picture flickers somewhat. On NT, the frequences go from 45Hz up to 71Hz.
I'm using 1024×768 currently on NT simply because it works and it isn't
interlaced. My original graphics card could drive my screen at 1280×1024 with
no problems but isn't supported by NT3.5.
When I was trying out the highest resolution mode, I had problems returning to
VGA. My monitor would display a 'horizontal sync out of range' when I shut down
NT. On one occaison, VGA worked but I got a screenful of garbage.
Even more curious is a friend with the same screen and card – he manages to get
the high res mode without problems. NT reports the video drivers 'out of date'
when he tries the Control Panel Display applet.
Any ideas?
Pete.
