Although the DLG maps (railroad, sewer, roads, etc.) are in electronic form, and DEM are in digital form, I don't think the USGS has ever had the time, means or computing power necessary to put topo maps into electronic form. I'm sure there would be a lot of interesting ways to integrate their data. That's what the entire GIS industry is trying to do. I'd love to have a way to overlay topo, roads, and bedrock. How about a rendered 3D image of your surroundings, with the hillside shown as the underlying bedrock, labeled with the local geologic timetable? 🙂
