I say go for it. I must warn you, however, that the geology job market ain't what it use to be. And if the republicans get the USGS shut down the market could be flooded with very qualifed people to soak up what jobs do exist. I've been pretty lucky and haven't had too many problems (except getting that first job…that was tough), but I have switched to the computer industry myself. Better money, more jobs.
