I really don't get the plunging of the Oceanic basin Crust down under the continent in the Subduction Process. The continents and the ocean crust (plates?) are floating on the asthenosphere that is (Plastics?) or molten liquids . What forces could be exerted on the ocean basins that could cause them to bend…. and then be pushed down into the material they are floating on …… ridge-push? How? convection currents? A whisper of a force, No Way slab-pull? solids don't compress into significantly denser materials. "(Plate Subduction) aye no sink so but ….if there were some force that could do that…. 1.The crust would melt. The lighter liquids would rise up and build at the surface. There would be huge active linear volcanoes rising _hundreds of miles high_ along these zones if this had been happening for millions of years. 2. Another very big problem is the inside of the curved mid ocean ridges. Look at the half circle bowl where the East Pacific Rise and the Axial Ridge curve around Australia. The Transform faults along this rise roughly all point inward to the deep trenches of Japan and the Philippines. This is a focus point for the proposed movement. A few inches a year isn't much but in 100 million years the crust would concentrate towards the center raising Australia and the whole Western Pacific Basin at least a couple hundred miles high. <g> Kamron
