Lanny Is there any chance that your topo map is just plain wrong? When the State of Vermont did it's own Geological mapping in the late 19th and early 20th Century, the state geologists commented repeatedly on the gross inaccuracies in the USGS topo maps they were trying to work from. Of course, Western mapping was done later and better than Eastern mapping. But I once had major problems trying to find some fossil sites East of SilverPeak, Nevada in a jumbled area of low hills. It appears that the Western side of the area was mapped in from the West, and the Eastern Side was mapped from the East (the Lake Wobegone effect) resulting in some "Townships" that are 8 sided geometric shapes roughly 6 miles by 7 miles — implying an error of a mile or so in the mapping.
