I thing you're wrong on that point. I've looked around in some other forum and
found messages that point in the direction that Vibrant has not programmed the
Vibrant Matrox drivers correctly. Take a look at the following message from the
Matrox forum:
Over the past little while it's been a kind of grey area where matrox and
vibrant stood on the issue of incompatibilities between Matrox' hardware and
Vibrant's drivers. It has come to light that a motherboard that uses pci bus
type 1 may not function using vibrants drivers. Matrox And Vibrant are in
communication about the problem and Matrox has provided Vibrant with the
development tools and hardware to address this issue. I will post further
updates concerning this issue as soon as the information becomes available. It
is also noted that the impression plus functions with the current drivers but
there are problems when selecting 24 bit modes over 800×600. Again, Matrox has
provided Vibrant with the tools nessecary to address this issue. If you own an
Mga card where everything works but 3d studio, download mgaset.exe and run the
program. This will verify the pci bus type. If Pci=1 then your motherboard uses
pci bus type 1. This will tell you that you will require an update to the
Vibrant Inline drivers. I will send another post to this forum as soon as an
updated driver is available.

So from my point of view the problem lies in the hands of Vibrant and not HP.
I would also like to know what AutoDesk is doing to correct this problem.
