I understand this, but this isn't whats happening in the sample image.
The table is in focus, the wall isn't in focus, and the reflection of
the wall is in focus. I you can come up with a rational explanation
of this phenomena I'd like to hear it. In the example you cite I
would imagine that the mirror she is using would not be in focus, or
if it was then the depth of field is set just beyond the foreground.
In that example the focal distance to the woman's reflection is the
distance from the camera to the mirror plus the distance from the
woman to the mirror. In your sample image the distance to the
reflection on the table is closely related to the distance from the
camera to the wall itself, if not further. I'm no physicist, so I
could be way off base here, but I have been interested in optics and
perception for a few years. If the product works according to
