Hi, Michael, nice to hear from you. Yes, we produce in S-VHS, and
have broadcast our productions on local television stations. Part of
the credit is due our TBC-IVs which provide an RS-170A quality signal
to the tape. Part is due the excellent tech support I get at TDS
MediaQuest in Kent, WA, where I get S-VHS bumped to 3/4" SP for
broadcast on our local FOX station, Channel 13. When we broadcast on
Channel 11, (soon to be a CBS affiliate), they bump our tape to 1"
for us at no additional charge. Incidentally, our programs are
entertainment oriented, but we purchase "paid programming" spots and
sell, produce and place our own ads within the show. Sort of like
leased access, though our local cable company requests programming in
3/4" SP format. Not so bad, really, since the cost of the tape stock
and dubbing is a tiny fraction of the cost of the broadcast time
itself. The most important thing, the broadcast engineers tell me,
is to have "legal signals" at 7.5 IRE min and 100 IRE max and
continuous stable sync. Also, observe FCC guidelines for acceptable
broadcast content. Perhaps you can find a friendly service bureau to
assist you with your bumping. Just be sure your master is right, and
you will have no problems.
