CD-I seems to be floundering. It almost seems as if Phillips doesn't want to
support it. All of my titles are for "in-house" consumption or for limited
release within the Nuclear Power industry, technical stuff. By the way I work
for a Nuclear Generating Station. We use CD-I for training and for
pre-planning of work orders. I am developing a photographic tour of the plant
that will allow the engineers, health physists, chemists, etc. to view plant
areas and pieces of equipment without going there. This saves in radiation
exposure and in time. Engineers can plan modifications at their desks and
actually see what they are working on. It seems to work. We estimate the
first year's time and exposure savings to equate to over $150,000. That's a
very good payback.
I'm a firm believer because I like the stand-alone concept. The delivery
systems are fairly cheap, as compared to a multimedia computer. We are
developing titles for training, use in our visitors center and in an
environmental area we have developed to promote conservation of wetlands.
I hope you have a Happy Holiday season and I'm looking forward to taking part
in the forum's activities.
