Leslie, I agree with you that there is a good chance that the remains of CBM are going to wind up in the hands of someone who will just run the string out, sell whatever equipment is left and let the technology die. Or that some effort will be made by the new owners to keep it alive a la the C64 for a very low-end market. You mis-stated my words, though. I don't think that the various parts of the Amiga technology are at a dead end. Certainly not multitasking, certainly not the use of co-processors, certainly not the efficient use of memory. But as a whole, the physical machine and the inter inter-action of all these parts _is_ at a dead end. The architecture offers nothing now in light of the current state of computer development. It is much too expensive to fix the things that are now inadequate. Multitasking is not viable without memory management. This alone is too big a hurdle. The Amiga's multitasking, as nice as it is (was) is really only a 'demo version' of the way multitasking must be implemented in an enterprise machine (which is what _all_ machines will now need to be). Graphics, and peripheral bus implementation are other areas that are mountains to climb. As bad as CBM was, it was a giant in terms of the R&D that would be needed compared to the entities that are now involved in the bidding war. To answer you other question. Why am I here? Do I really need to give you an answer to such a question? Are you some kind of door keeper? Do I have to present credentials to allow me to voice my opinions here? Is it necessary to wail about the awfulness of the current situation to be considered worthy of participating here? What transgression did I make to lose my membership? Mention of my use of (for my purposes, superior) Mac equipment (Horrors!). Let's see, I bought my first A1000 in 1985. Two more in '86 (still have one). Four A2000's in the next several years, two 3000s. Video boards, ethernet cards, Software and hardware from every major Amiga developer, (ASDG, Black Belt, DKB, Supra, IVS, WP, NewTek) Hundreds of hours on the phone with CBM about WB/KS 1.0 bugs, dozens more about WB 2.x, uncounted hundreds of hours on thios forum over a lot of years… Nah, those aren't the real reasons I participate here – there's only one – I pay my monthly CIS bill.
