Let's kill any rumours now, shall we?
NewTek execs have stated many times over that there will not be a Video
Toaster card for the PC or Mac. What makes the Toaster perform its magic
is not only on the card itself, but is reliant on the special hardware
features of the Amiga itself. The only way you might get a Toaster card
for an Amiga or Mac, would be to essentially have the guts of the Amiga on
the same Toaster card. And that is currently not feasible.
NewTek had produced a networking solution for Macs to be able to control
the Toaster(Amiga) remotely and transfer data directly, but that's been
it, as far as far as NewTek's plans for running a Toaster on other
platforms goes. Most PC users want the Toaster for the LightWave 3D
software anyhow, which is one thing that NewTek has been able to port
over.
for UK readers, NewTek HAS hinted that the next hardware upgrade of the
Toaster card could be PAL capable. The european market is where the
largest Amiga market is anyhow.
So expect Toaster NTSC and PAL cards for the future, and no Toaster PC or
MAC.
