Nick,
I think Andrew was saying that everyone will be getting the same software
with an upgrade to 4.0 — those who do not have a Flyer, will be able to
set up & run "scripts" excluding those that conrol Flyer's ability of full
motion video.
The fact that the Flyer is in it's own box, means that it does not need a
specific platform to run on. Yes it still needs to communicate with the
host computer but that can be any computer. This was the whole idea
behind the Toaster Workstation. Self contained Toaster System being
controlled by a MAC. So what that the workstation was a computer itself,
you could now tie the "Workstation" module to the "Flyer" module and still
run everything from your MAC.
Those visiting Traz have reported more R&D toward this idea of non
computer specific Toaster product. Perhaps some day there will be a real
"plug and go" switcher, but until then the world will have to make due
with buying used Amigas to run their Toasters in. But how long can a
company rely on the used market? This only forces them into R&D for
something other than Amiga. I can see how Andrew came to his conclusion.
