Hello Paul,
I had to put additional fans in both of my computers before I was happy. I
used small 12v muffin fans salvaged from old power supplies and simply propped
them up or taped them into position inside the case with the airstream directed
at the disk drives. Before I did this, the all three of my Micropolis drives
were hot enough to fry eggs on – now they are all at room temperature. I wired
the fans into the 12v pins on the drive power supply pigtails.
I wouldn't waste money or slots on a fan board. You really need the air
blowing directly onto the drives. My pentium case has an extra fan built in
that circulates air near the processor chip – I added a baffle that directed
the air directly onto the chip. I also want to put in a fan directed towards
the PAR board, as it gets HOT.
