Steven and John, I just joined the forum and look forward to making use of the resources here. I am not a desktop video pro by any means, but I have begun to use video and it is an increasingly important part of my work. I am working on my PhD in archaeology at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. I have a strong background in computers (PC and Mac), and part of my work at Tulane involves using computers more effectively in archaeology. This includes using video in many ways, ranging from QuickTime movies as database fields to producing multimedia movies for public consumption. I believe the ability to include video images as part of the record of an archaeological site and to mix rendered and "real" images in video form will be a great benefit to archaeology both from the standpoint of professional understanding and presenting findings to the public in an entertaining and comprehensible format. I use mainly Mac equipment, but my university has a recently purchased PC based system which I will be in charge of next semester. We have both linear and non-linear systems, as well as scanning and color output hardware. I look forward to gaining some insights into the PC desktop video world in your forum, as well as improving my Mac skills. Hopefully, if the new PowerPC platform takes off, it will be easier to combine the two. I'm glad to see this forum opening up on such a timely topic. Sincerely Chris Drake Tulane University cdrake@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu
