OK, Russ, that explains a lot. Having come from the CP/M world (plus Multics, Unix and VMS), I was not aware that the mac required PC relative code. I hear you when you say PC-relative code is fast and small. I still say that it's a dumb restriction to place on a user … most computer systems let the programmer use _ALL_ the instructions on the chip. I thought it was dumb when I heard Amiga had made that restriction, and I still think it's dumb now that I've heard Apple did it.
