Price Cuts?
If CBM has no intention of continued support for the BB's, they why did
they bother to include AT slots in the A3000? That makes no sense. Also
why did they claim that the A3000 could run MS-DOS software with the
addition of a Bridgeboard, and yet the 5 1/4" drive that comes with the
XT/AT BB's will not work with the A3000. I think you WILL see continued
support for the BB concept, and the AT slots etc. in the A3000 are proof of
this. Prehaps not a 386 BB, but they will at least have to revise the
current 286 BB to make it work with the 3000. As they only included 2 AT
slots, with the BB taking up one of these, they are now forced to add more
built-in ability into the BB itself. Right now it is not possible to have
an A3000 with AT BB, VGA graphics, access to the serial port and a HD
controller all at the same time. This speaks to me of a NEW 286 or 386 BB
in the works
I really don't think CBM would have bothered to place AT lots in a system
that they had no intention of useing.
As to having built-in compatiblity, I don't know where you live, but around
here, that is something iv'e head time and time again. So how about
offering two versions of their systems, one with and one without the PC
ability. For those that want/need it and who are willing to pay for it.
and one for those like you, who dont. Im sorry, but I don't see the Amiga
EVER taking off over here based on it's own merits. You are totally
discounting alot of people out there that do exist, and they DO want an
Amiga with PC ability and who want the ability to be up to par with the
mainstream PC world.
You seem to worried about of cost of a 386 BB, but are you not one of the
people who are excited about the addition of Unix? If I recall that system
is $4999.00 not what I would call bargain bastment. Also the Mac high-end
systems cost MUCH more then the Amiga's and the Mac seems to be selling
well in the U.S. There is even a version of a BB for the Mac also.
