Sure I can go back and forth – unless specified otherwise, which I can't remember ever doing, printing and comm are always background. While applications (spreads, WP etc) don't "run" unless in the foreground, it is routine to have several loaded for instant switching, and more importantly, on the Mac, interchange of data, images etc. Seems to me that multitasking in the absence of lots of processor cycles isn't much of a benefit. While I grant you that you need a Mac II (68020) at least for background to be comfortable, I also found that my stock Amiga 2000 wasn't quick enough to do one thing to my satisfaction, much less many.
