I should have clarified that somewhat. By screen saver I don't refer to
the old fashioned screen blanker, but rather something which comes up and
does neat things with the screen. (After Dark for the Mac or PC is a good
example…)
Under a multitasking & windowing system, it is a fairly trivial task to
do this. Under a non-multitasking system, it's still possible, but a lot
more difficult, and on a non-windowing system like DOS, it's nearly
impossible.
As for using Diskmaster and wildcards: That's fine, but you've moved away
from the "pure" GUI in that case. You're actually resorting to *typing* a
filename. (Shudder… 🙂 And it's probably still faster for an
experienced person to do it with CLI commands.
Also, will Diskmaster allow you to send such wildcards to ANY program?
Can I, for example, run my GIF display program HAMGIF passing it #?.gif
using it? I'm not too familiar with Diskmaster having experimented with
such programs ages ago and giving up on them as too slow and cumbersome.
