Thanks for the warning. I noticed those powered pins in the manual, and I've been real careful about avoiding them. I assumed there was a quick and easy software solution, but I thought I would try this, since the Mac is only four feet away. If (or when) I give up on this null modem stuff, I'll check out the programs you mentioned.
