Yeah, a mechanical mouse rides on pads, but that's to allow the ball to
roll _in contact_ with the pad and the mechanical sensors inside the mouse.
That is _friction_ at both the top and bottom of the mouse ball, and it is
that friction that, by the very nature of the term FRICTION, causes the
mechanical mouse to be jerky (the more dust/dirt that collects on/around
the ball, the jerkier the movement is).
