Glenn,
If you want to spend more time reading, figuring, experimenting, and
redoing that actually producing objects or animations then by all means,
get Imagine. It is difficult to find a more obtuse, less intuitive (except
to the authors and the people who originally learned 3d stuff in Silver)
than any program I have had the misfortune to work with on any platform in
the 15 years that I have been involved with computers professionally and
privatley.
It sounds like you want Caligari2. Not the broadcast version, but the
"consumer" version (unless you really want to spend $2000). It supports
HAME and DCTV directly, and saves out objects in Lightwave, Videoscape, and
Sculpt formats. If you really want Imagine you could get both and build
objects in Caligari, output to VScape, transfrom to Imagine via
Interchange, breing the objcect into Imagin for surfacing and animation to
the Firecracker.
