Hi Ed,
You might try Oregon Grape (Mahonia aquifolium), or one of the many species
of Cotoneaster (not all will do well in your area, but several will).
There are many plants that will tolerate drought conditions, but most
require more sun than you will get on the north side. You might check with
a local nursery to see what plants they have available. Also, remember
that most plants are not drought resistant until they are fully established
– until then it will take some extra care from you.
