Mark, you have moles because you have grubs. Get rid of the grubs and you will not see the moles. Grubs are the larvae of Japanese beetles, June beetles, and some other beetles. They do not like to lay their eggs in grass that is cut 2 inches or higher. So you have several choices. You can use an insecticide, designed to kill grubs to get rid of them this year; then raise you mower and by next year the numbers should be down enough for the moles to move to your neighbor's yard. If you want some reinforcement, hang at least three Japanese beetles traps around the perimeter of yuour property, buy some DOOM (milky spore disease) to apply in May or June, and also apply an insecticide to kill grubs in late August; all that along with raising your lawn mower gets rid of moles. In the short run, you can trap moles easier than setting up a barrier. The harpoon trap is the most effective; lethal but effective.
