"Help…I took Autocad Release 10 home from the office and loaded on my home machine (486 system) when I try to run Autocad I get message "The 386 chip is currently executing in virtual 8086 mode under the control of another program. You must turn off this other program in order to use 386|DOS-Extyender to run in protected mode." The problem is I don't have anything else running, I start ACAD from the DOS prompt C:\ACAD\ACAD. Any Suggestions, I would really like to be able to use AutoCad at home." Stephen – if you don't have anything else running, and you start AutoCAD from the DOS prompt by running ACAD, then there must be something in your configuration files that is derailing things. Try booting with a barebones AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. Also, you must have installed the program with the installation routine on disk 1. Installation creates a batch file called ACAD386.BAT; have you tried starting the program with that, rather than with just the executable? Dave PS – for anyone else who is following this thread, Stephen sent me a cmail explaining that he is the owner of the software. He bought it for his office but it won't run on his office system, so he brought it home to use on this home machine. So don't be fooled by that parrot on his shoulder — he is not a pirate!!!
