A PostScript debugging program called LaserTalk exists now on the Macintosh,
and is announced for release soon on the PC under Windows. This product uses
the interactive abilities of the PostScript interpreter in your laser printer
to show you line by line the results of your PostScript code, and sounds like
just what you want.
As for font design, the best Mac product seems to be Fontographer. The only
competitor on the PC side is Publisher's Type Foundry, and it's not really
competitive. Take a look at both.
