You can't play real time and have DMCS transcribe it; you need a sequence recorder for that. If you have a program which allows you to drive a MIDI device, you can have the external device play your music for you. If the synthesizer has "fairly realistic acoustic sounds", you will get fairly realistic acoustic sounds. A sampler does an excellent job. So does a well programmed DX. If the program utilizes internal sampled sounds, you can have the Amiga play your music for you. At this point in time we're limited to four simultaneous voices and not much bandwidth, but some of the samples I have here _are_ fairly good. If the program allows both, you can have the best of both worlds. This lets the Amiga handle lead lines or narrow chords, and bury itself in the mix behind the external device(s) which handle the chord strata. This greatly improves the perceived quality of the Amiga's voices. SoundScape or DMCS can do all these jobs. Sonix I can't comment on, as I haven't gotten my review copy yet. I know you don't want to wait, but there are reviews on these three programs coming up in AC in a few months. Also, Music Studio has already been reviewed, but I wouldn't suggest it for what you want to do. If you have any other specific questions I'd be glad to answer them if I can.
