Those 'inflamatory' remarks about Amiga did not just come out of the blue. I have owned one of the things since the first day they hit the streets. Ever try to do single-character I/O where you need to be able to read both regular and function keys in any window ? You'll bust a gut doing it. Instead you are supposed to use those little requester boxes. Try doing a text processor that way. The OS is so obsessed with menus and requesters that any hopes of doing command-driven screen-oriented functions are dashed by the 'why am I wasting my time ?' demon. Someone from the TDI- modula2 sphere once told me that I had such problems because Amiga was so sophisticated that I would never need to use such methods – that menus and requesters had such all-encompassing wonderfullness that there is never a need to leave thier embrace. … I am never going to spend another nickel with TDI ! Thier compiler is good but thier sensibilities are in question. This is just one tiny little item given the totallity of the machine – but it is important. You are right when you say the quality of the software is increasing – nowdays they actually check for RAM before they write to it, which is a major improvement. But the non-video software is just 'cheap' feeling. I am going to take my advice and buy IBM. By the time I put enough money into Amiga to get it to do what I like in IBM, I can get an IBM to do what I like in Amiga – and have more and better thought-out software. ——-> Adios Amiga ! —————> — a very dissatiafied user .
