Most programs are now coming with a script to install them on your hard drive.
The only things I know of that WON'T run off a hard drive are games with heavy
protection built in. Some of those just can't be put on the hard disk –
because you can't even make a backup of any sort.
I know that Lattice C, ProfessionalPage, WordPerfect, SuperBasePRO, SuperPLAN,
Pagesetter, and Calligrapher will all work from a hard disk – though I haven't
tried it because I have no hard disk.
